Inukshuk At Victory Point
April 22nd 1998 was the exact 150th anniversary of John Franklin's surviving crewmen coming ashore at Victory Point on King William Island in Canada's Arctic as they abandoned ship in a fruitless effort to survive. John Harrington led a small team to this exact spot to commemorate this anniversary. This Inukshuk was at the site and is pictured here against the midnight sun as storm clouds began to move in. John and his team were forced to ride out the storm in their igloo. They were virtually out of food and fuel before being rescued several days later.
